PETSET’S MOONLIGHT AND MARTINIS 

It’s time to shake things up for PetSet’s 11th annual Moonlight and Martinis presented by SUBARU of Pembroke Pines.  This fabulous event will be held poolside at the magnificent Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale located at 1 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard on Thursday, May 31st from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. 

Enjoy a fabulous evening under the stars where guests will enjoy two complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.  DJ Chris Cruz will keep the crowd entertained while PetSetters bid on marvelous silent auction items all to benefit the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Broward County.  

To add to the excitement, a “Martini Battle” between local hot spots 3030 Ocean, Steak 954, American Social, Blue Martini and The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale will take place.  Each venue will create a Grey Goose Cherry Noir specialty martini.  Guests will have the opportunity to sample each venue’s martini and then vote for their favorite.  The winner of the martini battle will be announced that evening.

PROGRAM EXTENDED FOR PIT BULLS

In June of 2011 the Humane Society of Broward County offered FREE spaying or neutering for pit bulls ages 8 weeks to 6 months.  The program initially was supposed to last only a month and was then extended through December of 2011.  As a result, 113 pit bulls were sterilized at the Humane Society of Broward County.  Because of the program’s success, and donations from the community that helped cover the costs associated with this, the shelter is going to continue the program through 2012.  The goal for the year is to sterilize another 225 pit bulls.  So, if you know someone that has a pit bull that meets the requirements, please have them contact the shelter at 954-463-7729 or spayneuter@hsbroward.com to take advantage of the program.

The Humane Society of Broward County receives thousands of animals every year who are surrendered by their owners for a variety of reasons.  While the animals are in the care of the shelter, they are given their vaccinations, the dogs are taken for walks, and volunteers spend time with them to make their stay as comfortable as possible. 

As a non-profit organization the shelter relies on donations to operate and currently is in need of the following items:  new or gently used towels, white for the kennels and colors and patterns for bathing; soft dog treats and cat treats; paper towels for cleaning; rubber dog toys that can be disinfected and cat toys; hand sanitizer; and of course monetary donations are always welcomed to help offset the costs of medications and expenses associated with operating the shelter.
