Isn't it enough that I'm living in boxes like a hoarder in the new house? Noooo! The wife said put up some Christmas lights.
Here's what I've got so far. Not award winning but not Elian Gonzalez house either.
The first in a series from Paul Castronovo. This is Day 1.
Next set of photos... Mexico!
(Day 2 photos will be posted later today)
Since starting my cycling, I've taken my picture each year. Note the progression!
This is where I want to be: 30 years ago!
Would you say that this is a photo taken at the wrong angle, or right angle? Either way, the angle makes it comically unfortunate.
Sitting here looking at this recent photo of Coach Don Shula, joining the Paul and Young Ron gang, I can't help feel happy and at the same time, sad. Happy because, how freaking cool is it to hang with Shula and sad because of how far we have fallen since we ran him out of the head coaching job. The team is a mess, and what is the answer?
"Fire Jeff Ireland!" That's been the rallying cry for the past few years, and yes it's getting louder after 4 straight losses, but is that really the answer? Let me refresh the short memories of the Dolphin fans.
"Get rid of Shula, the game has passed him by!" Remember that tasty little nugget? Everybody wanted Jimmy Johnson, fresh off his 3 rings with Dallas, JJ was the flavor of the month, and we wanted to taste him. So much so that we ran the winningest coach in NFL history out the door like a failed sitcom. How'd that work out for us? Coaching the Fins wasn't JJ's finest hour, he left with a worse winning percentage than Shulas final year, and while I think he's a great guy, he saddled us with Dave Wannstedt. That was brutal. Greatest guy ever, but he once said, "a punt is a good play".
"Fire Dave Wannstedt" was the next headline and we went for it, why? Well, Nick Saban was available. You remember Nick "I am not going to Alabama" Satan, don't you? He blew the Drew Brees deal and hit the road after two years as the most hated man in Miami prior to Nevin Shapiro.
Then what happened? Oh yeah, the Cam Cameron, Cam Cam Caroo mess. Ok, that was a mistake, "we need a head of football operations guy: Hire Bill Parcells!" Oh boy they sure did, and what did that get us? He sent Jason Taylor to the Jets, and brought in another really nice guy, Coach Tony "I love a field goal" Sparano. Did you ever see anybody more excited about a field goal? Oh yeah, Dave Wannstedt and his punts.
"Fire Tony Sparano" Ok, we did that too. We keep firing people, but where is it getting us? When we were 3 and 0, Ireland was a genius. The players were kicking ass, Tannehill looked like the second coming of you know who and now? "Fire Jeff Ireland" again? He talked the owner into spending $200 million on free agents in the offseason, what happened?
Well, if Dustin Keller doesn't get hurt, Mike Wallace catches passes like he used to and maybe we aren't 3 and 4 and not having this conversation. But remember, "Fire Jeff Ireland" gets us: A new GM, a new Coach, a new system and 5 more years of nothing but rebuilding. What do you want?
Gina, my wife, with former Dolphin great Louis Oliver. Fine, nice photo, right? Until you look at the photo here...
Dear Mr. Loria,
As I sit here and watch former Marlin great Miguel Cabrera, now playing for the Tigers in the ALCS, I only have one thing to say: You ruined baseball for me and countless other South Floridians.
Understand, I'm not just another whining member of the media complaining about the state of baseball in South Florida, no. I'm a former seven year season ticket holder with a 13 year old Son who couldn't name a Marlin player if I offered him a new iPhone. You can say, "well that's your fault, why didn't you bring him?" There's an answer to that: you lost Me as a fan.
I grew up a Met fan, watching and going to games with my Dad and Grandfather as a kid, when we moved to Florida, there was no baseball, so we became Dolphin fans. Then one day, we had baseball again and we went to 20 games a year and saw two World Series teams. What great memories my Father and I have. Then you built that stadium, and the "big lie" happened.
After years of "nothingness" you went out and hired the best team money could buy. They stunk the joint up the first year, and that was it, you bailed on the team, and the fans. You said that, "one day, we'd realize it was the right thing to do". Was it?
I'm not the only Dad not taking his kid to baseball games, you've lost a generation. Those kids are now Heat and Dolphin fans, and you don't care.
Shame on you for that. Shame on you for cutting, meddling, firing, hiring and ruining baseball. I miss baseball, but didn't realize it until I found myself today, rooting for teams that I don't care about. That's on you Mr. Loria. You ruined baseball, shame on you.
Good Day Sir,
Dad, Radio host, former baseball fan.
