From what I've read on the blogosphere and major entertainment websites, everyone is summing up this year's Oscars in one word: "Meh." I don't know about that.
I hought Seth McFarland was funny, fresh and as predicted, inappropriate. Referring to Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln, McFarland said, "I would argue, however, that the actor who really got inside Lincoln's head was John Wilkes Booth." You knew he was going to go there. He's Seth McFarland!
I loved the musical numbers by Adele, the cast from "Le Miz" and the incomparable Shirley Bassey: "Gooooold Finnnnnnnnnga!" I could have done without the Catherine Zeta Jones' “All That Jazz”, and Jennifer Hudson's bit from "Dream Girls." They were great, but you have to cut somewhere. I love me some Kristen Chenoweth, but the ending number with McFarland about the losers didn't work for me. When the best picture award is given out, the show should end, lest my rear become permanently grafted to the couch.
Can't get away without giving my nod to the best dressed: Of course, it was Jennifer Lawrence. Some may argue that if a girl can't wear a big, poufy dress without tripping up the steps in it, it doesn't belong on any best-of list. As we all know, however, it's not how you fall, but rather how you pick yourself up that counts. The first thing she did at the podium was poke fun at her fall. Yup, in one fell swoop, she made us love her even more!
Overall, I call it a fun, enjoyable Oscars 2013. Hey, what was the alternative? Honey Boo
Boo? Hoarders? Come on!
