Big Bird might not have to head for the unemployment line just yet. Halloween costumes of the big yellow bird have been in high demand since Mitt Romney decided to use Sesame Street as a symbol of wasteful government spending.
According to the Disguise costume company, this has been the biggest year ever for Big Bird costumes, which range from $39.99 to $89.99. The entire stock of costumes has sold out within a matter of days. Manufacturers certainly didn't see the increase in popularity coming. With Elmo and Cookie Monster the usual big Halloween ticket, the company wasn't prepared for such a great demand for Big Bird.
With only a week to go before Halloween, the Disguise company is unable to make any more of the costumes because, ironically, the big yellow suits are made in China -- another target of Romney's scorn. Brand manager Maddie Gerty says, "There's no way we can do it... This is definitely a missed opportunity."
