UPDATE: Mother Who Left Two Boys Home Alone in Deadly Fire Temporarily Losing Custody

A Lauderhill mother who lost one of her kids in a house fire is now temporarily losing custody of her surviving child.

A judge deciding her 9-year-old son should be in the care of his teacher for the time-being as the Department of Children and Families investigates.

Melanie Harvey was out working at a nightclub when a fire broke out Monday, killing her 8-year-old son while he was home alone with his brother.

Criminal charges are possible in this case.

The 8-year-old boy who died in a South Florida apartment fire was home alone with his brother when it happened. Lauderhill police say the 9-year-old was able to survive by jumping from a second-story window, but his brother couldn't get out. He was found dead inside.

 

Criminal charges are possible against the parents.
