Miami-Dade School Board Gives Early OK To New Budget
Posted Friday, July 25th 2014 @ 4am

The Miami-Dade County School Board gives a preliminary green light to a $2.9 billion budget.

The spending plan reduces the property tax rate that funds schools and increases spending for schools by $43 million.

$375 million will go towards charter schools and new student-choice programs. $35 million dollars will be stashed away in the district's rainy day fund in case of a funding gap between the state and the county.

Miami-Dade schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho says no teachers will lose their jobs because of financial reasons.

The budget plan will go up for a final vote on September 3.
