Jailed South Florida Marine To Appear In Mexican Court
Posted Wednesday, July 9th 2014 @ 8am

The South Florida Marine sergeant jailed in Mexico goes to court Wednesday to appear before a Mexican judge.

Andrew Tahmooressi has been in jail in Mexico since April 1st when he crossed the border in possession of weapons that are illegal in that country.

Tahmooressi will have his first opportunity to explain to a judge that improper road signage caused him to take the wrong ramp as he was heading to San Diego for treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Marine's mother, Jill Tahmooressi, of Weston, Florida, says she is hoping a border agent who can corroborate her son's story will show up in court.

That, she says, could potentially lead the Mexican judge to dismiss all charges against Sergeant Tahmooressi.

Jill Tahmooressi, though, says she realizes that is highly optimistic, since her son's new attorney has informed the family that the entire judicial process could take as long as six months.

In fact, an evidentiary hearing has already been pre-scheduled for August 4th.
