A red-light camera proposal for Miami-Dade County is met with opposition from Hialeah's mayor.
Mayor Carlos Hernandez has sent a letter to county Mayor Carlos Gimenez saying the city is against cameras that could go up in high-crash intersections in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
Hernandez argues the high-crash/high-volume intersections where the county commission will consider putting cameras are traveled daily by residents from Hialeah, who have voiced their dissatisfaction with red-light cameras.
Hernandez says the benefits of camera programs are questionable, legal challenges continue, and Hialeah citizens view the programs as revenue generation for counties and cities and the state.
