Compromise Deal To Fix VA Health System Officially Unveiled
Posted July 28th, 2014 @ 2:15pm

A $17-billion dollar deal is being struck on Capitol Hill over reforming Veterans Health Care.

The deal funnels additional cash to hire more doctors and gives many vets the option of seeking care outside the V-A system.

$12 billion of the deal is in new spending, while $5 billion will be in "offset spending" that cuts from elsewhere within the VA.

It also gives the VA secretary more control over the firing of senior executives in the department.

Florida Representative Jeff Miller says this is a compromise deal.

"The VA is not sacred, the Veteran is," adds Miller, "And that's the most important thing for all of us to remember as we have gone through this process."

The deal still needs committee approval before heading to both the House and Senate.
