Budget Proposal Calls for Elimination of 700 Positions
Posted June 26th, 2014 @ 7:01am

If labor unions refuse to accept concessions and Miami-Dade County commissioners refuse to raise property taxes, then about 700 county jobs could be eliminated.

The mayor's also trying to shift tax money reserved for first responders to libraries.

That could lead to nearly 300 Miami-Dade Police Department employees being laid off.

The department's budget staff has been able to protect all cops on the street, but the cuts would be to investigators and support personnel.

The budget gap has shrunk from more than $200-million to $75-million.

Budget department officials will keep crunching the numbers until July 15th's public hearing.
