150 More Red-Light Cameras Could be Miami Bound

Miami drivers could be under the scrutiny of additional red-light cameras soon.

Officials are looking over proposals to add 150 red-light cameras in three stages. County commissioners will vote on a camera vendor in November.

Founder of Stop on Red Florida, Melissa Wandall, says the cameras are reducing repeat offenders.

"They're getting caught one time, they don't want to get caught the second," says Wandall. "Whether it's that they want to get caught or not, the fact is that they are taking part in making our highways safer."

Critics of the cameras say it's just big business. Drivers paid out $119 million in red-light ticket fines last year and the winning camera vendor cashes in with a monthly fee.
